What is the difference between the two majors of Italian Language and Italian Studies?

How did the nation of Italy form and how did the Italian language form?
Q. Even though the regions of Italy didn't unify until the 1860s, how old is the Italian nation and how did the nation of Italy come into existence? How did the Italian language form and why does it sound a lot like Spanish when French doesn't sound at all like Spanish? What type of money was used in Italy before the lira?

A. Italy *still* doesn't have a single language. There's the same problem in Spain, but it's worse in Italy. Sicilian is not the same as spoken in Naples and neither is the same as the Italian of Rome, etc. It's not like comparing USA's Chesapeake Bay to Gulf coast, it's almost like comparing Seminole to Apache.

What are some words that are in either the Dutch or Italian language that isn't in the english language?

Why do Americans fetishize Italian language?
Q. I don't understand why so many white American people say Italian language is so beautiful. They also tend to say Italian food is their favorite and Italian people are attractive. Is it just white Americans' ignorance and lack of exposure to other cultures? Or is it that the concept of "Italian", though foreign, is "white" enough to appeal to even the most xenophobic white people?

The definite article is the first thing that any beginner learns, but knowing when to use it and when not to use it seems to be the preserve of native speakers. A. For starters I would recommend Italian Made Simple by Cristina Mazzoni; it includes workbook sections and is really conversational. It teaches you a lot in the form of an ongoing story new vocab is incorporated and you have to figure it out, but once you do it sticks in your mind well. I used this book last year and only got to section 7 but I went to Italy and stayed with an Italian family for three days; it was a wonderful experience and I could really carry on conversation with them and understand what they were saying. They were very impressed at my knowledge because of this book and we still correspond - in Italian - today. I m not sure about CDs but I know that listening to Italian music and translating the songs really got me into… [cont.]
